What I Think 9.04

If I needed yet another reason to watch the Patriots v. Bengals game on opening weekend, Chad Ochocinco just gave it to me. He tweeted "If I am able to score Week 1 in New England, I will be taking the Minutemen rifle and firing as they do when the Pats score,” earlier this week. I am usually a fan of Ochocinco’s antics but I am not so sure how I feel about this one. On one hand I like them because they are fun and generally funny, but I don’t know if this one will be. I think that the fact that he announced what he was going to do in advance is what actually bugs me. If you tell people about a prank before you do it, is it still as funny as when you surprise everyone? I’m not so sure but I think that it’s funnier when it is a total surprise to everyone. Either way, I still hope he does it because Bill Belichick will be doing his best these next two weeks to make sure it doesn’t happen. I still don’t like Belichick after that cheating scandal a couple of years back but that is a topic for another day. Now, on to some other NFL topics.

I think that the 4th game of the NFL preseason is completely useless. Now, I don’t want it to seem as if I am contradicting myself because last week I talked about how I thought that the NFL changing its regular season from 16 games to 18 would be a bad idea, but there is still a possibility for a compromise. The NFL labor talks seem to hinge on the schedule change, but I am not sure if the two sides will be able to agree on the full 18 game change. Instead, why not make it 3 preseason games and 17 regular season games? Think about it, who would really miss the 4th preseason game where most starters play at most the first series. I think that this is the most agreeable compromise because the owners will still get the additional regular season game so that they can increase revenue, the players do not have to play too many more significant games, and the fans don’t get completely screwed by having to watch/pay for ticket to the meaningless 4th preseason game.

I think that the Eagles are a much better team than people are giving them credit for. If Kevin Kolb is anywhere near as good as the Eagles are saying he is, then they could win that division, or at least contend for a wild card birth. This is because Kolb’s greatest asset is his accuracy, and the speed that they have on the outside will turn all of the short to intermediate passes into huge plays. DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin will both have over 1,00 yards receiving this year, and a good portion of it will come after the catch. They do have a ridiculously tough schedule though, playing in the NFC East and all, but they get their last two games at home against playoff contenders Minnesota and Dallas. Those will both be great games and have serious playoff implications because all three of those teams could be competing against each other for the wild card or division title.   Having both of those games at home gives the Eagles a decent advantage because of how great their fans are.

That’s all from me for this week. Thanks, and let me know what you think about what I think.
